Cities and Infrastructure Minister Rob Stokes did not hold back in his criticism of casinos last week, in light of the damaging revelations about The Star in Sydney that prompted the resignation of its chief executive, Matt Bekier. “Now is the best time to ask the question: are the illusory and ephemeral benefits of Sydney’s casinos worth the proven harm – the deceit, the crime, the destroyed lives?” Stokes asked in Parliam

As The Sun-Herald reports today, those destroyed lives may well include some of the nearly 200,000 children inAustralia exposed to moderate-risk or problem gambling through their parents.
